Is the Chevy Equinox a Better Choice than the Mazda CX-5?
For a long time, the Chevy Equinox has remained one of the most popular SUVs in the nation. Practicality, fuel economy, and exterior design has helped seperate it from competiting SUVs. Today, we'll compare the new Chevy Equinox with one of it's stiffist rivals-- the Mazda CX-5. Let the comparison begin!

Exterior Design and Attractiveness

Chevy Equinox
The Chevy Equinox brings a modern touch to a trendy driver like you. Decorated with LED headlamps, available fog lights, and one of three grille options, complete your front fascia. Charismatic wheel designs, including available 20-inch machined wheels, adds a rugged appeal to your crossover SUV. To top things off, you can choose from an array of color options like Mosaic Black Metallic, Radiant Red Tintcoat, or available two-tone colorways that combine a Summit White roof with a different base color.
Mazda CX-5
The Mazda CX-5 is as basic as it gets. Its straightforward approach resembles the brand's minimalist idea-no flare, no flash-all business. The CX-5 offers a honeycomb front grille design with bright LED headlights to cap off its front fascia. Wheel sizes range from the standard 17-inch set to an available 19-inch version. The available shark-fin antenna and dual exhaust outlets cap off the "sporty" look for the Mazda CX-5.
Verdict
You judge a vehicle by performance, features, and looks. And between these two SUVs, the Equinox shines brighter than the CX-5.

Fuel Economy and Performance

Chevy Equinox
All models are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. What does that mean for you? An EPA-estimated 26/28 MPG city/highway for FWD models. If you're looking for more ways to improve your fuel economy, the Equinox can run on E15-a more cost-effective unleaded fuel that's environmentally friendly. AWD is optional on all trims, while MacPherson front suspension and the drive mode selector are standard.
Mazda CX-5
The Mazda CX-5 is powered by a 2.5-liter engine with an EPA-estimated 26/31 MPG city/highway. The CX-5 does, however, offer up to eight trim levels-half of which are powered by a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. This setup will decrease fuel economy to an EPA-estimated 22/27 MPG city/highway. So, you'll have to judge if the extra ponies are worth the decreased fuel economy. AWD is available on all trims.
Verdict
The Mazda CX-5 offers slightly better gas mileage but doesn't offer as much off-road performance and handling as the new Chevy Equinox.

Interior Comfort and Technology

Chevy Equinox
All Equinox models come with an 11-inch diagonal driver information center and an 11.3-inch color LCD with Google built-in and Apple and Android compatibility. Each model is also packed with a Wi-Fi hotspot for quicker streaming and web crawling. The standard Equinox trim comes with cloth bucket seats, a 6-way manual driver's seat, remote start, and active noise cancellation to preserve your inner sanctity on the road in Paramus.

Driver's Assistance and Safety

Chevy Equinox
The Equinox brings an array of driver's assistance and safety features as standard for all models. A bevy of alerts, ranging from forward collision to rear parking assistance, will help keep you aware of obstacles-even the ones you don't see. A child LATCH system, safety locks, multiple airbags, and occupant presence detection ensure that the kiddos are safe and secure.
Mazda CX-5
The Mazda CX-5 resembles safety and support on the road with standard features much like the Chevy Equinox. A LATCH system, multiple airbags, and anti-lock brakes are just a few of the overlapping features for each model. Alerts like blind spot monitoring and lane-keep assist will round out the entry-level safety features, while upgrades come at higher trim levels.
Verdict
The Equinox will give you more protection for less money. That's why we believe the value lies with our prized Chevy SUV.
